EN E-001299/2019 Answer given by High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini (6.6.2019) The European Union (EU) is monitoring the situation in Tibet and has consistently called on the Chinese authorities to respect the rights of people belonging to minorities, notably in Tibet and Xinjiang. At the bilateral level, on the occasion of the 37th EU-China Human Rights Dialogue (Brussels, 1-2 April 2019), the EU raised a number of concerns with regard to the situation in Tibet, women's rights, including women trafficking, reproductive rights, including in the framework of the one child policy. Despite the limited replies received to these concerns, the EU will continue its bilateral engagement in line with its values and principles. At the multilateral level, the recent Item 4 statement delivered at the 40th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in March 2019 called on China to respect fundamental rights of Tibetans. The EU will continue monitoring the situation in Tibet, including in respect to reproductive rights and women's rights.
