Question for written answer E-002309/2015 to the Commission (Vice-President / High Representative) Rule 130 Mark Demesmaeker (ECR) Subject: VP/HR - EU-China Human Rights Dialogue - Self-immolations in Tibet In recent months there have again been a number of self-immolations in the Tibetan region of China. Since 2009 there have been as many as 136 self-immolations, resulting in 119 fatalities. In 2014 there were 12 self-immolations. Almost all cases involved Buddhist monks protesting against repression by the Chinese authorities. 1. Has the situation of Tibetans and Buddhist monks in China been raised as part of the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue? If so, in what way? If not, why not? 2. Over the last few years, have Buddhist monasteries in the region of Tibet again been closed or placed under Chinese military control? What is the High Representative doing to follow this up? 3.
